Because I studied security issues with forums, and found that spammers use web crawling bots to access member lists and then you get on many gambling/porn/pill lists. Being a programmer, I am making this forum more secure than others out there, and that is one way.
I also added another anti-spambot feature on the registration page since they have bots that can crack the CAPTCHA anti-spam system using OCR and start posting spam on forums across the web automatically. We had our first spam post yesterday, probably from a bot.
