95 2500. Great. Dies in D at idle when a.c. is on.

Postby soshea00 » Sat Jun 30, 2012 3:36 pm

Anybody ever experienced a 95' Dodge 2500 that idles rough and/or dies when the A.C. is on? It started to happen subtly and on veg only, but 3 months later it happens on both fuels and so extremely that the truck dies. Only in Drive at idle though. Idle in Park is seamless. No other performance issues at all. No regular truck mechanics have any idea, so i thought it might be wvo related (weakened I.P.?).

Idle in drive with no a.c. is seamless. Idle in park with or without a.c. is seamless. Idle in Drive with a.c. kills the truck. Both fuels.
Started as a lope on veg only, then gradually worsened, then went off the cliff on both fuels. Not air related. Truck is plumbed using Sunwizards design, so there is no vacuum created, and even if I was wrong, this problem would not go away in park if it was an air problem.
Thanks

It sounds like the idle RPM is too low. Have you tried increasing the idle speed? Its easy, you simply turn a small bolt on the IP.

Thanks for the reply. Thank you also for the diagram for the dodge conversion. Its my favorite and least problematic conversion to date.

Regarding this issue, I'll look into the idle adjustment, but out of curiosity, why would it only be such an extreme problem with the a.c. on in park?

Because the AC draws a lot of horsepower and lowers the RPM even further.

thanks so much. I am only idling at about 600 rpm without the A.C., so it looks like you are right. I'll make the adjustment.
Thanks again for your help!

this happened to me last year. on diesel though. this year the ac does not work at all so i think that must be the issue. turn off ac,, runs fine, turn it on dies at idle at a light. turn it off and it runs fine. now ,,,,nothing. dont know nothing about a/c so it needs a mech.
