Copper coil around CIMTech Fuel filter. Bending an issue?

Postby 777funk » Wed Nov 07, 2012 3:19 pm

I'd like to wrap 5/8" OD copper around a CIMTech filter. I currently have the filter head sitting in the old Powerstroke fuel bowl. It fits great but it's not getting hot at all like I thought it would being on top of the valley pan. So I'm going to wrap 5/8" OD soft copper around it.

Is there a good way to get it to bend? I've heard of the salt or sand trick. Might try those. Any other ideas?

You get more heat exchange by wrapping with a rubber hose since there is much more contact area. Someone did tests on that, and it makes sense. Its also much easier to wrap.

Do you have to unwrap it each time you change the filter? If not wouldn't it be a loose fit (not as much contact area as a tight fit)?

Do you wrap the filter in some sort of insulator to keep the hose heat inside?

No. Its a tight fit and still comes out with some wiggling since hose has lots of flex.

No I haven't but some people do.
