Injection Pump issues on the SolTrekker

Postby SolTrekker » Thu Jun 20, 2013 7:56 pm

I have a RV with an isuzu NPR 3.9 liter turbocharged Diesel engine. I have converted it to run on SVO and hydrogen back in November and its been running pretty smooth until about a month ago when, after a particularly fatty batch of oil, I noticed a significant drop in horsepower. I immediately thought the filters were clogged and changed both the filter on the veggie oil line and the original diesel filter. Also started running only b100 and not veggie oil but still had horsepower plateau. Changed the air filter and checked to make sure the turbocharger turbines weren't gunked up and they seem to be fine. I got word from an isuzu truck mechanic that a similar problem happened to another NPR that had been converted to veg and it was the rubber plungers inside the injection pump that were causing the trouble. So I am going to be taking out the injection pump and injectors and getting the looked at. Is there any other things I should be considering and has anybody worked with the isuzu nprs or chevy w4s

Thanks
Will

Have you checked the fuel pressure just before the IP? A simple fuel pressure guage is the most useful thing to tell what is happening, I recommend one be installed on every system.

And if its one without a lift pump, then a vacuum guage. And check for air leaks.

Thanks for the fast response.

It has a lift pump....

So what if the problem is in the injector pump, what are my options as far as fixing or replacing?

Take it to a IP repair shop. But that is the last thing to look at since its the hardest. And other things are more likely.

Things like I mentioned above:
