FASS HPFP Heater

Postby Cumminscanuck » Sun Mar 23, 2008 6:33 pm

I recall seeing on one of the forums a reference to a heating attachment for a FASS pump :? Can anyone point me to it as I have been unable to find it thus far. My system is almost complete, just two fittings for the filter awaited to finish it, so I'm planning for the future. I figured by adding some heat to the pump which is under the cab on the frame I would remove the only remaing cool spot in the system. Any suggestions or ideas out there :?: I would prefer using electric heat but can use coolant if necessary.

I just did a google search, but it wasn't looking too good. (haystack/needle)

Try calling the maker directly.

I believe it was I that posted that I had seen the heater on one of the Veg vendors sites when I bought my pump in Jan. I thought it was on FryBrid's site but after a quick search of most of the vendors sites I can no longer find it.

It was a machined aluminum block the same size as the FASS pump segments, it had 2, 5/8s hose barbs and was drilled to just add a segment to there stack of sections.

It may longer be available because to install iy you would have to cut the seals on the Fass pump, that will void your warranty,

I do think it was Frybrid or Rover that used to have it, it may not have been a FASS unit but custom, from one of the vendors.

What would you guys reasonably pay for these if I got my buddy to custom machine them for you?

I'm not sure that I would want to use something the invalidates the warranty which is 6 years. I think I'll just wrap the pump in insulation. :)

I wasn't suggesting that you break open the sealed pump head, I was thinking of a simple piece of aluminum about the size of a deck of playing cards with a coolant passage machined through it. Then you just screw in some 1" NPT to 5/8" hosebarb fittings and plumb it in. Of course there would need to be some sort of way to secure the thing flatly against the end of the pump head for good heat transfer.

Totaly not interested myself. Only 2 of the four bolts are sealed, it could be fastened to the pump by the other 2 and still cover 80%+ of the base. it could simply be an aluminum block that coolant just passes threw on its way to your tank heat exchanger or on the return side from tank. Or it simply could be a simple long pipe nipple welded to a plate that is affixed to the base.

I olny have a 15A fuse in my 23A motors supply and I have never taxed it when turning the pump on, even at-3F :D

Cumminscanuck:

With the amount of Aluminum you have already used in your install, why would you even consider looking to an outside source?
