I don't know how many people fall into the grey zone of having gas piped to their house, but also being far enough out of the densely settled areas to be able to run generators and compressors. In some instances it will be cost effective to run a diesel engine/genset on natural gas, generating both electricity and heat for Space Heating in a small co-generation system.
CNG fueled vehicles are a good urban solution to reduce pollution, especially where range between refueling stations is short.
Well-to-wheel lyfecycle cost analysis shows CNG as being one of the best future fuel options.
