I must be seen as an expert

Postby hheynow » Tue Mar 25, 2008 7:48 pm

For the last couple of months I have been inundated with private messages from various diesel & wvo forums from newbies wanting to convert their 1st generation Powerstrokes. Seems that I'm seen as some expert or something. I guess that diesel at $4.25/gallon is driving many to convert. I welcome these future converts as we all were newbies at some time.

Anybody else hearing from others wishing to convert?

Yes lots of PM here too. I tell most of them to make public posts so future newbies can find the answers by searching (I hope.)

Yep. Several in the last couple weeks over at TDS. I too help all I can. Its like investing in little fuel banks all over the country. See, I get around alot for work, so its quite likely these folks will be able to 'repay' me w/a little warm, dry VO when I come thru their town eventually! If I help'em set up good sources and build effective pre-filtering stations, they are alot more likely to have good fuel to share!!

Yeah, one guy at powerstroke.org said my PMs gave him so much more info about Plantdrive's kit than their website did that if he orders it he wants me to get a commission from them. We'll see about that. Jason I like your vision of vegoil fuel depots with all your contacts. Makes traveling easier since you won't need to carry so much vegoil. I've seen the vegoil fueling websites but to have your personal contacts is far superior.

I am surprised at the number of emails and messages I get, in fact I'm surprised anyone would want to ask me anything at all!
i don't mind racking up the brownie and good Karma points by helping people though.

I think in the not too distant future, all us eccentrics , wackos and nut jobs running our cars on veg are going to be held in a whole different esteem when we are happily driving round everywhere like fuel is still only $4/ gal.
People that know us will recognise how smart we are after all and people that don't know what we are doing will think we are Millionaires to afford the cost of fuel for all the driving we do but being really modest about our wealth by living in normal houses and driving old cars!

I already have people calling me a local god for my semi-working SVO conversion. If I had a real one what worked reliably, wow!

Motivation is perhaps just an ego boost. To newbies we are seen as experts as we have vegoil miles under our belts and have gone through the learning curve already. I wish I had a mentor LIKE ME two years ago.

OK, now I understand. I can appreciate having a mentor and then giving back by mentoring, I do this too.

I misread the subject of this discussion
I must be seen as an expert
to mean recognition as an expert was a personal requirement.
Like "I must get this done by the end of work today"

First thing I tell'em is I ain't no expert! I'm just a little smarter than I was a couple years ago. IMHO, there aren't any experts - yet! Give it another 10yrs... 8)

Yeah, if they would only build more nuclear power plants then hydrogen would be more economically feasible as a fuel.
