Hilux computer problems

Postby yendor » Mon Jul 03, 2017 4:10 am

I have converted a 2003 Toyota Hilux 3l turbo diesel and done 3000km but having problems with the EMS computer bringing the engine fault on the dash and going into limp mode. The injector pump has four electric connections/sensors that are not happy with WVO but will run happily on diesel. The computer is an older type that does not keep a log of past faults and resets every time you switch the key off?
The other problem is the return line on the injector pump is individually connected to return to their respective tanks but will cross contaminate WVO into the diesel tank which blocks the fuel filter. Can you just loop the return line back into the inlet side without damaging the pump?
Hope someone can help thanks.

Yes I and many others run on WVO with a looped return. Its not looped on diesel, so that any air that gets in the loop gets cleared out once in a while.

I have been running WVO on a 2003 Hilux and have run into many problems with the 3 litre turbo engine which is running a rotary injector pump. I have now realised that WVO has destroyed my injector pump which is going to cost me thousands of dollars to repair. According to several diesel specialists Toyota have been using rotary style (vane) pumps since 1990 and the lubrication qualities of WVO is not sufficient for this style of pump and not only blocks up the sensors but causes excessive wear on the pump itself.
I wish i knew this before buying this vehicle in the first place.
One other thing, it is vital that the EGR is blocked off as it fills the inlet manifold full of gunk.
I hope this stops anyone else from making the same mistake.

Cheers.
