Electronic pH measuring?

Postby Jake Palmer » Wed Apr 23, 2008 1:14 pm

On another forum, I know someone who is selling one of these for $300:
http://www.hach.com/hc/search.product.d ... +enclosure

All P53 Controllers have -2 to 14 pH (-2100 to +2100 ORP) measuring range, 4 electromechanical relays in a 1/2 DIN and hardware for panel, surface or pipe mounting. 2 year warranty.

Selectable pH or ORP operation
Multiple language capability
Enhanced menu-guided operation
1/2 DIN NEMA 4X enclosure
Universal mounting hardware

He used it for monitoring the pH of his fish tanks. Would this work to measure the pH of veggie oil?

Being able to monitor easily monitor the pH of veggie oil would be attractive.

Anyone interested? If so PM me and I'll put you in touch with the seller.

No it probably wouldn't work for PH of VO. I have an electronic PH meter, and you have to use it in water only, so I do a mini-mistwash on a sample and then suck out only the water. Even if little drops of VO in the water get on the sensor it throws it off. I find its not very reliable, and that a TDS meter ($20) is far better, more sensitive, and also detects far more than just acid/base. TDS also detects salts and soaps.

Has anyone tried one of those Moisture meters for measuring water in WVO?
Do they work in that application?

I don't give a damn about what might or could happen until a significant group of people can tell me it HAS happened to them.
Until then, it's just more endless gloom and doom Veg folk law.
