Hot Oil Containers

Postby scstevens04 » Wed Mar 05, 2008 12:02 pm

Does anyone use those 5 gallon “pickle barrels” to collect oil straight from the fryer? I wouldn’t think they’d melt but thought someone here’s probably better informed.

Most restaurants don’t want me to leave a big barrel, so I’m looking for 5-15 gallon alternatives but can’t find any metal ones that are leak-proof. I thought of a small metal trash can and seal the seams with something like silicon glue and/or maybe muffler tape. Any better ideas out there? I think the obvious is escaping me…

Thanks!

We use army surplus ammo cans for collection out of the fryer. They hold 5-6gal, are steel, can handle the heat, and have an airtight seal. You can pick them up for $15-20
