MODERATOR NOTE- this is split off from Filterfuge FF25 to keep that thread on topic.

No, those links return the images.

No they don't, they go to a page of html. If they pointed directly to the images (as needed for IMG tags), the URL would end with .jpg or .gif or .bmp

If you use www.photobucket.com or one of dozens of other sites, they give you a URL that can be used here or on any forums.

You should try actually following the links. They return an image. And no, they wouldn't necessarily end with a file extension.

I did follow the links, and that is how I know they are not the correct kind for use on forums as explained above. That storage site is specifically designed so it can't be used on forums.

You obviously didn't, if you claim they return html.

OK its not html, a better way to say it is: That storage site is specifically designed so it can't be used on forums. Because the URL doesn't end in a picture type extension.

Um, no, this forum just has a bug in the image tag.

...

In fact, it looks like you kept HTML turned on. Let's see what this does.

Ha hah. There we go, the img bbcode tag is busted.

No its fine, you just used HTML which I enabled for pics. I could have to disable HTML if we ever got any troublemakers. The IMG tag is used for URLs that are pic types, it doesn't work with HTML. Do a quote on any of my posts with pics and you will see its working fine, I use it all the time. Here, hit quote on this post and examine the IMG code:

The problem is that the bbcode img tag only seems to work on urls that have image-like extensions, not on all images. It's a bug.

No its a security feature. Similar to the ability to disable HTML in posts. You can read more at http://www.phpbb.com about the reasons why if you like.

It's pretty pointless. Requiring an arbitrary ending on a URL does nothing to prevent anything.

Aside from your obfuscated grammar, let me just say that you're wrong. It's a good feature, even if you're annoyed by it or whatever. If you doubt my qualifications for telling you so, PM me and I'll tell you my resume, and where I currently work.
But that's WAY off topic so let's not keep on posting here about this, if you want to keep the discussion up, open a new topic somewhere on "phpbb design flaws" or somewhere and I'll be happy to chit chat about it with you.
