OT Looking for Dual Sport project motorcycle

Postby coachgeo » Fri Jun 06, 2008 11:09 pm

I'm looking for a project "dual sport" motorcycle. NO engine is fine. 500cc model and up to ensure it's got heavy duty enough components for the project.
Building a diesel dual sport bike. Daily commuter. Once is running reliably then start experementing running it on Veg fuels.

My project head is in Barstow CA so the closer to that part of the world the better.

Can trade some cash or beer orr???

Other items looking for to help w/ project

20 to 30+hp diesel Rugerinnni, Lambardini, Briggs and Stratt engines etc.

small foot print transmision high range low rang or more gears.

Transport of finished project from Barstow to north TX

Thanx in advance for any leads you might have.

Found/bought a donor bike. It is in Palo Alto CA. Bad motor so price was good. 1997 Triumph Tiger. This particular era Tiger has a good reputation for such a conversion.

Anyone near there that can pick up and store the bike till end of June? Let me know ASAP if possible. Otherwise I need to put it up for bids with Uship in a day or two. Seller can't store it for long.

Why June? I may well have transport in June to bring it back. Know a good number of folk going to San Jose from this area week of June 23.

. 6speed Ultima Tranny
. 3" belt drive w/clutch to go from engine to tranny. Will use OEM chain drive from tranny to wheel.

now trying to find an affordable LDW / KDW 1003 Lombarding/Kohler engine

Thanks, should be a good project.

Unfortunately a bad turn of events though. The seller of the bike has basically dissapeard with my money and the bike.

I've been screwed.

Some motorcycle enthusiast in CA are trying to help me retrieve it or the money.

Just realized I had not updated this.

The seller that had disapeard ..... reappeared. He was in the hospital it seems. Some awsome help from members of AdvRiders board. Some members there tracked down the home, his wife and got the missing guy resolved. By the time he contacted me though..... I had ended up with a cancled check. I had also bid on and won a different part bike. As much as I needed a hole in my head..... I bought the first one too cause the seller dropped the price a bunch to get rid of it.

I sold a lot of my shiat to get these two bikes. Both Triumph Tigers. I Leave in a few days to go pick them up in CA using a rickety old trailer. Hopefully it wont fall apart going or returning. Figure I'll need to reinforce it somewhat before I load the bikes.

now got to sell more shiat so I can afford a Dihatsu 3cy turbo D (sold by Briggs and Stratt in the US) Only reason I can afford this at all is cause it will have practical application of 80 to 100mpg over a weekly 360 mile commute.

Hi Coach I'm glad it is working out after all. I'm in San Diego and saw this http://sandiego.craigslist.org/esd/pts/1243193126.html on the local craigs list. It is a Kawasaki diesel mule motor that is a little less than 1000cc. If money wasn't so tight I would probably already own it. Stop by if you need any oil for your return trip.

its worthless of an engine IMHO. Might be worth for parts though.

It has a hole thru a block and needs a new rod and piston. My guess is the Crank is warped too.

The CVT.. now that sounds interesting. Just its more expensive than a brand new Harly Trans.
