Dodge 12 Valve: Latest year made?

Postby Welder » Mon Jun 23, 2008 2:50 pm

Hi everyone.

Although I've heard that the older Ford F-series Navistar engines are a good choice for running veggie (indirect injected like an older Mercedes), they have a weaker IP than the older Mercedes in-line IPs and the older Dodge Bosch IPs.

It seems that because the older Mercedes were the best engines for SVO because they had strong in-line style IPs AND indirect injection, BUT aside from tossing an old Mercedes engine into a smaller pickup truck (like a Ford Ranger), I know of no newish truck made that has both in-line IP and IDI.

That leads me to see that for anyone demading BOTH the fuel savings of SVO fuelling AND the versatile practicality of owning a truck, they are forced to choose either and older F-series IDI (with a weaker IP), or a Dodge 12 valve Cummins with a stronger in-line IP (but direct injected).

To that end I've got 2 questions:

1. What was the latest year Dodge ever made their trucks with the 12 valve Cummins engines.

2. Was this year equipped with an in-line Bosch IP (I think they were called a P7100?), or had they already gone over the the weaker VP-44 rotary IP?

Thanks in advance!

First half of 98.

Yes. 94-98.5 are the best ones because they have a P7100.
