My emissions have improved to 0% opacity

Postby SunWizard » Tue Sep 23, 2008 8:16 am

I just got my emissions test done on my truck. I ran on D2 for 40 minutes before the test, and during the test. The emissions test when I got the truck was 33% opacity at 60mph (on a dyno under load.) Now after 2 years on VO, it was 0% opacity at 60mph, same test. So it looks like VO is cleaning up my engine and injectors and making my emissions better even when on D2. This opacity is better than even the modern trucks with lots of added complexity (and problems) to meet emissions.

I haven't done any other changes or tuneups on the engine besides my 2 tank conversion.

Since the first emissions test, did the US diesel convert from old dirty D2 to ULSD? That may have had some influence.

All I have ever put in the truck was ULSD, it was all I could buy here when I first got it a little over 2 years ago.

Does your D2 now go through an FPHE? We heat VO to make it pump and atomize better, so it is logical to postulate that the heated D2 is likewise atomizing better, and combusting more completely. Or at least with much less soot formation. What lubricity additive do you use? 5% VO?

No heat to my D2. No additives. The test was done on a cool 45F morning.
