Type of fittings

Postby tubular031 » Wed Dec 03, 2008 3:40 pm

Hey guys. I am designing my system now and am working off a few ideas.

What type of fittings should I go with? Steel? Brass? I would LOVE SS but that would cost more then my truck!

is one better then the other? for VO or for coolant?

I used both black steel and brass. There is no poly problem with either as fittings since there is no air. In your tank is where you should avoid both.

Either is OK for coolant, since your engine block is most likely iron, and coolant contains corrosion inhibitors.

my tank is alum with a hotfox heated pickup (got a SWEET deal for it)

My fear with iron or steel is that rust (or other corrosion) will form on the inside of the fittings and could break off and make its way to the injectors. i was going to run it this way

tank -->fass pump --> filter with coolant wrap --> FPHE -->hose to Tee --->hose to heads. all those fittings after the filter worry me. or am I just over worried about nothing? I know MANY people run like my planed setup (including DFA aka veggie stroke). am I just over analyzing things?

good point on the iron block and coolant! I knew that but did not realize I knew that! :)

I have seen no reports of rust in fittings beyond the tank. But if you are worried, but a small clear inline filter right before the IP.
