Is this pump to powerful?

Postby curbill » Thu Apr 15, 2010 7:56 pm

I picked up a 1 HP 115 volt geared transfer pump by Tuthill that puts out 18 quarts per min or 4.5 gallons per min. It has 1 1/2 suction and outlet ports. I want to downsize the pipe to 3/4 inch. Will this put out too much pressure? The pump was supposedly defective but it was only a inccorectly installed switch. I would like to use this with my centifuge but I do not want to plumb the whole thing and find out it is the wrong setup. Thank you in advance

You would need to see a chart from the maker showing flow at various pressures. We also would need to know what CF. Its likely too high flow, too low pressure.
